A recent local newspaper piece described an array of prospective enhancements planned for the Stratosphere. Included in the pipeline of possible upgrades are an indoor go-cart track, a nightclub, a convention center and a restaurant combined with retail shops to be located at the Stratosphere tower's base.

The indoor Grand Prix-style go-cart track would have customers competing against one another. The nightclub would take over a 27,000-square-foot space adjacent to the casino.

Garduno's, with existing locations at the Palms and Fiesta Rancho in North Las Vegas, has been named the "Best Mexican Restaurant" in Las Vegas eight years in a row by readers of the "Las Vegas Review Journal." Now Garduno's has opened a third casino-based Mexican restaurant at Fiesta Henderson.

The 300-seat eatery specializes in fajitas, seafood dishes and burritos, Garduno's is known for made-at-the-table guacamole and a fresh salsa bar. Another feature is over 200 Margaritas made fresh to order and over 65 Premium Tequilas, served by flair bartenders.

Garduno's is open for lunch, dinner and brunch on Sunday, call 702-558-7000.

One of the most popular rock bands of the '70s, The Doobie Brothers, will perform at the Las Vegas Hilton Theater, Sept. 26-27, at 10 p.m. Tickets are $30, $40 and $50 plus tax and handling fee, call 702-732-5755 or 800-222-5361.

Few American rock and roll groups have been able to sustain the level of success that The Doobie Brothers have with two Grammys, 27 chart singles, 16 Top 40 hits, 11 multi-platinum albums, 13 Gold albums and a Diamond Award for 10 million copies sold of "Best of the Doobies Vol. 1,"

Over the course of 30 years, The Doobie Brothers' music has evolved from a country blues-based sound into a style that emphasizes both R & B and jazz elements. Their most recent release in 2000, "Sibling Rivalry," is a testament to their diversification.

"Xtreme Close-Up Magic" starring Steve Dacri at The Orleans is now extended through December and has moved from Brendan's Pub, which was really too noisy for this intimate show, to Gustav Mauler's Sazio restaurant next door. New show times are Friday through Monday at 8 p.m.

Dacri is known as the man with "the fastest hands in the world." He's appeared frequently over the past 25 years on network television shows and recently spent the last six years at Caesars Magical Empire, which is now closed.

Only 90 seats are available for this dinner show that includes salad, choice of entr‚e, dessert and beverage and features Dacri's "in your face magic," Everyone has the opportunity to appreciate Dacri's magic because of a roving camera projecting his close up magic and audience participation onto a giant TV screen.

The show and dinner are $49.95 and $34.95 for children under 10, call 702-365-7075,

"Zumanity" is the fourth Cirque du Soleil show running in Las Vegas joining "Mystere" at Treasure Island now being called TI, "O" at Bellagio, and "A New Day" starring Celine Dion at Caesars Palace. This time the theme is a creative exploration into every imaginable type of love and sex relationship wrapped into an adults-only erotic package. This Cirque show has more of a cabaret feel and less of grandeur of the other three.

You know things are different from the moment the show opens with emcee, Greenwich Village cabaret legend Joey Arias playing Mitzy La Mooche, the Mistress of Seduction. From the start there is no doubt this show is about sex. In sexual terms, there's something for everyone climaxing, pun intended, with an orgy scene on a revolving stage. This is a point where believe it or not audience participation kicks in and a random man and lady are led on stage to lie down in the middle of the massive intertwined flesh.

"Zumanity" will not appeal to everyone, but it has its place especially for gays and lesbians. The show in terms of pushing the envelope is what "HAIR" was back in the 1970s. It tears down boundaries beginning with the two bare-breasted ladies diving and cavorting around in a life-size fishbowl. The more talked about scene is the interracial gay couple who end their dance routine with an unbelievable long kiss.

While some of the pacing is still being worked out, there are already elements of the show that are rock solid with the aerial flying act featuring a lady and a muscular midget being one act and the astounding senior citizen balancing act being another.

Guess you can tell this show is different. Tickets are $55 - $95, call 866-606-7111.

Caesars Palace will launch a multimillion dollar "Live Famously" advertising campaign that will verve away from the traditional toga, chariot theme and move towards a so-called "Business Roman" motif. The change will highlight the 37-year-old Roman-themed resort's recent facelift that will total $250 million and include new restaurants, an expanding shopping mall, the $95 million Colosseum built for Celine Dion and A-list headliners. The national print ads will begin this month and could last three years and the television commercial will begin airing next year.

Another change includes Park Place Entertainment Corp. changing its corporate name next year to Caesars Entertainment Inc.
