It seems Las Vegas is giving Hollywood a run for its money when it comes to film shoots. Last year, according to the Nevada Film Office, Las Vegas tallied up 2,500 days of production and 543 projects. It's easy to run into a film crew on any given day.

NBC's new series "Las Vegas" will debut on Sept. 29 and star James Caan, Josh Duhamel, Molly Sims and Nikki Cox. A couple Las Vegas hoteliers have cameo roles including Glenn Schaeffer, president and chief financial officer of Mandalay Resort Group, and Phil Maloof, a co-owner of the Palms and NBA Sacramento Kings.

ABC TV has started production on a one-hour pilot called "Life of Luxury" starring Las Vegan Robin Leach, who hosted "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous" from 1984 to 1994. One of the places he wants to chronicle is the MGM Grand's Mansion, a domain closely guarded for super high rollers.

Las Vegan Markus Rothkranz, a long-time 20-year movie industry special effects artist, writer, and director is launching a new Las Vegas-themed TV series titled "Atomic City." The lighthearted, fun-filled family show promotes Las Vegas as the hippest place on earth.

The protagonist, Stan Velvet, cruises around the city in a cherry-red, jet engine car complete with James Bond-like gadgets, uncovering secret government plots and spaceships with the help of a "Baywatch"-type babe. Rothkranz has built and created much of the Atomic City world by utilizing hand-made miniature models full of the tiniest details that are skillfully intertwined with actual Las Vegas cityscapes.

Prior to "Atomic City," he completed his first full-length $2 million motion picture, "To The Ends of Time," which was a finalist for best feature drama in the SCIFF International Film Festival. Rothkranz has several other film and TV projects in the works including "Time Lapse," "The Last World," "Thrillride" and "Empire Lost,"
