A groundbreaking was held last week for a new special event facility called The Venue Las Vegas that is being built Downtown at the Fremont East District on the corner of Fremont and 8th Street. The Venues Group, which is a special event and entertainment facility group from Scottsdale, Ariz., is expanding and will open the 36,000-square-foot property in February 2015. Since 2006, The Venue Scottsdale has been known as one of the most upscale and high-profile locations in Phoenix, Ariz.

The Venue Las Vegas will feature versatile special event and meeting space with two full stories and a rooftop patio, including six indoor and outdoor event spaces for parties that can accommodate 30 up to 2,000 guests. Featuring exterior stone work with old world charm and interior urban chic décor, the space will also include: a built-in stage and entertainment hall with full audio and lighting production; on-site catering; private rooms; outdoor patios; a VIP and billiards area; a comedy club; and V2 = Virtue & Vice Lounge, an upscale bar and lounge that will be open to the public on a nightly basis unless there is an event buyout.

RHINO LININGS SPONSORS NASCAR CAMPING WORLD TRUCK SERIES RACE

Rhino Linings Corporation, a global leader in protective coatings, linings and building products industries, has signed a multi-year agreement to be the title sponsor of the Las Vegas Motor Speedway's annual NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. The next event on Saturday, Sept. 27 will be called the Rhino Linings 350.

DEVELOPMENT ACTION ON NORTH END OF THE STRIP

Recent news shows Australian billionaire James Packer with his Crown Resorts Ltd. coming together with former Wynn Las Vegas President Andrew Pascal and investment firm Oaktree Capital Management to develop the old 35-acre New Frontier hotel-casino site.

Next to this parcel of land where the Stardust once stood and Echelon was under construction by Boyd Gaming until the 2008 recession is where Malaysia-based Genting Berhad is expected to begin construction soon on the $4 billion Resorts World Las Vegas.

All this excitement falls in line with the former Sahara site opening Aug. 23 as SLS Las Vegas.

Meanwhile, the Clark County Commission is giving approval for All Net Resort & Arena, a $1.3 billion, privately-funded multi-use development spearheaded by businessman and former UNLV and NBA player Jackie Robinson, to be built on the former Wet ‘N Wild site between the new SLS and the vacant Fontainebleau that never got open.

ROSEANNE BARR ADDED TO ‘LIPSHTICK’ COMEDY LINEUP AT VENETIAN

Comedy star and judge on this season's NBC “Last Comic Standing,” Roseanne Barr is the newest female comedy headliner added to the lineup for resident series “Lipshtick - The Perfect Shade Of Stand-Up” at The Venetian. She will command the stage on Nov. 7 and 8. Barr is a longtime comedy staple starting as a stand-up comedienne and subsequently producing and starring in her own hit sitcom, "Roseanne," which ran nine seasons and earned four EMMY Awards. Tickets range from $37.50 to $77.50.

EMMANUEL & MIJARES MAKE LAS VEGAS DEBUT AT PLANET HOLLYWOOD

Spanish language pop singers, Emmanuel & Mijares, will perform at The AXIS Powered by Monster at Planet Hollywood on Sunday, Sept. 14 with their “Two'r Amigos” concert. After more than 50 successful concerts in Mexico, the two friends for more than 30 years will bring their biggest hits to Las Vegas for the first time. Tickets range from $78.50 to $346.25.

Emmanuel keeps putting out hits with his most recent album “Acustico en Vivo” (Acoustic Live) going triple platinum in 2012. With Mijares' career spanning more than 27 years, he is one of the most popular Spanish language music artists in the world. He is currently promoting his new album, “Canto Por Ti.”

The AXIS Powered by Monster is the newly-renovated 7,000-seat theater at Planet Hollywood that opened in December 2013 with the venue's first artist-in-residence, Britney Spears.

THE INCREDIBLE HULK INVADES MADAME TUSSAUDS LAS VEGAS

Marvel's biggest Avenger - The Incredible Hulk is Madame Tussauds Las Vegas' newest and largest figure standing 15-feet high. To celebrate his arrival, Las Vegas students 12 and under who dress as their favorite super hero or say “Hulk Smash!” will receive complimentary admission to the attraction through Aug. 24. Hulk's debut follows the recent opening of the attraction's Marvel Super Heroes 4D Experience.

In addition and until Aug. 24, Children l Facebook followers also have a chance to win an Incredible Hulk figure signed by Marvel legend Stan Lee by answering “Why are you a Hulk fan?”

Because of its size, building The Incredible Hulk figure was no ordinary feat. Fifteen sculptors took three months to complete the figure that was divided into various sections each sculpted separately. Black human hair was used for the Hulk's glossy mane and lots of hair gel. Due to the hero's enormous size, five times as many materials were used and scaffolding was needed to make the installation.

BATMAN LASER CHALLENGE NEW AT CIRCUS CIRCUS ADVENTURE DOME

The Batman Laser Challenge at The Adventuredome at Circus Circus is new and offers the first-ever Batman themed laser maze. Using speed and strategy to beat the clock, guests as would-be crime fighters can choose between two experiences that are brought to life with radiating wall-to-wall lasers, fog and themed audio tracks to guide or hinder the racer as they attempt to complete the mission.

TONY SACCA'S PATRIOTIC FUNDRAISER SET AT SANTA FE STATION

Tony Sacca's “Las Vegas Sings For America” fundraiser benefitting Las Vegas' young entertainers will be taped for broadcast over Labor Day weekend before a live audience at Santa Fe Station in the Chrome Room on Sunday, Aug. 17, at 2 p.m. Sacca will host and perform patriotic tunes along with many other dynamic acts including: singers Denise Clemente and Anne Martinez; Las Vegas Tenors; Bella Electric Strings; Flamenco guitarist Toto Zara; Harrah's dueling piano twins Tamara and Kim; impressionist Rich Natole; American inspirational treasure Rudy Ruettiger; and the Las Vegas Young Entertainers. ‘LAST COMIC STANDING’ COMEDIANS HOST NIGHT OF LAUGHS AT ALIANTE

Three comedians from NBC's hit show, “Last Comic Standing,” including two of the current final-four contestants on Season Eight Rod Man and Lachlan Patterson, will team up with Mark Normand for two shows on Saturday, Sept. 13 at Aliante at 8 and 10:30 p.m. The winner of “Last Comic Standing” will be announced Thursday, Aug. 14 on NBC. Tickets start at $17.50 and luxury booths are also available.

ANGELO TSAROUCHAS HEADLINES THE LAUGH FACTORY

Three of the best stand-up comedians in the business will appear together at The Laugh Factory at the New Tropicana, Aug. 11-17. Headlining the show will be Canadian-born Angelo Tsarouchas who most recently was a special guest on the Russell Peters World Tour, and Vince Vaughn's Comedy Roadshow. He has also been featured on, “Mad Men,” “Sullivan & Son,” the comedy documentary, “Just Like Us,” and finished a new film, “Christmas with the Karountzases.”

Joining Tsarouchas will be Chris Bader with Kristeen Von Hagan hosting. The Laugh Factory has two shows nightly at 8:30 and 10:30 p.m., with tickets priced at $34.95 and $44.95.

BEATLES' ORIGINAL VEGAS VISIT CELEBRATED

The Beatles “LOVE” by Cirque du Soleil and Southwest Airlines together will commemorate The Beatles' historic arrival in Las Vegas on Aug. 20, 1964, with a special event at McCarran International Airport in T1 Baggage Claim on Thursday, Aug. 21 at 2 p.m. On that famous trip, the English rock band performed two shows at the Las Vegas Convention Center and each was seen by more than 8,000 people.

The sensual female revue from Australia “Sydney After Dark,” has announced it will close at Planet Hollywood with the final performance date yet to be determined and claim they will relocate the show to a smaller room.

“Million Dollar Quartet” at Harrah's is dark Aug.11-24.

“Pawn Shop Live! The Lost Episode” will close at the Riviera on Thursday, Aug. 21.

Classic vocalist Michael Monge has made his Las Vegas debut inside the Eastside Lounge at Encore. Monge is known for his uncanny vocal resemblance to the late Frank Sinatra. He has played venues throughout New York and the East Coast.

Aug. 15-17, the memory of Elvis Presley will be honored on the 37th anniversary of his death. Sam's Town has a few deals going. Guests dressed as Elvis will dine for free at Firelight Buffet. Elvis tribute artist Brandon Bennett will perform at Sam's Town Live! Aug. 15 at 8 p.m. with tickets starting at $14.95. And an Elvis Karaoke Contest will be held in Roxy's on Aug. 17 from 2-4 p.m. Cash prizes for top five contestants range from $100 to $1,000. Registration is from 12:30-2 p.m.

Dennis Wise “King For a Night” will perform his tribute show in the Chrome Showroom at Santa Fe Station on Saturday, Aug. 16 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $12.50. Wise turned professional one year after The King's death with his tribute act. Dick Clark deemed him one of the top three Elvis impersonators.

The second Distill in town is a new free-standing local bar that recently opened in Southern Highlands at 4830 W. Pyle Ave. offering food and gaming.

Bonefish Grill at Town Square recently revealed its new updated menu with managing partner, Marcus Powers,hosting a tasting dinner. Famous for their Bang Bang Shrimp, it and two desserts S'mores and Banana Split are all being presented now on flatbread. Other new menu items include: NY Strip Tataki; Cold Snap Fresh Ceviche; Cilantro Lime Shrimp Salad; Spicy Tuna Bowl; and Rib-Eye Steak.

Two Las Vegas restaurants, the new Giada at The Cromwell and Top of the World Restaurant at the Stratosphere, made the 2014 Diners' Choice Award Winners for the Top 100 Scenic View Restaurants in America list.

Border Grill chef/owners Mary Sue Milliken and Susan Feniger, of Bravo's “Top Chef Masters” and Food Network's “Too Hot Tamales” will open their much anticipated new modern Mexican restaurant within the first level of The Forum Shops at Caesars near the spiral escalator in early fall.

Five Las Vegas-area Sammy's Woodfired Pizza & Grill locations are serving as collection centers for school supplies as part of Communities In Schools of Nevada's second annual Fill the Bus campaign. Patrons donating $5 or more worth of supplies, backpacks, white or navy polo shirts and jeans will receive a coupon for a free pizza with their next purchase.

PT's Ranch at Pebble Road and Eastern is celebrating summer every day in August with 50 percent off all drinks and pizzas between 5-7 p.m. and midnight-2 a.m. On Tuesdays, the outdoor wood fire BBQ dinner is $9.99 from 5-9 p.m.

THE PUB AT MONTE CARLO SETS REMAINING BEER PAIRING DINNERS

The Pub at Monte Carlo has announced its remaining lineup for the 2014 Gus' Beer & Bites dinner series that is held one Wednesday per month at 6:30 p.m. Each beer pairing dinner is five courses with a representative on hand from a featured brewery. Tickets are $64.05; call The Pub at 702-730-7421.

MICHAEL GRIMM & BAND AND MARK O'TOOLE APPEAR AT CLUB FORTUNE

Michael Grimm who won Season Five of NBC's “America's Got Talent” show will perform at the Club Fortune Casino in Henderson on Saturday, Aug. 16 from 9 p.m. to 1a.m. Grimm also toured with Stevie Nicks and Heart.

LAS VEGAS FALL RESTAURANT WEEK RUNS AUG. 22-28

Three Square Food Bank and the local fight against hunger benefit from the city-wide Fall Las Vegas Restaurant Week planned from Aug. 22-28 with participating restaurants creating their own prix-fixe menu offered at price points ranging from $20.14 to $50.14 and donating a fixed portion of the proceeds - $4, $5 or $6. The list of restaurants and menu details can be found at www.helpoutdineoutlv.org. Since its inception in 2007, Restaurant Week has raised more than $852,000 for Three Square.

This fundraiser in its eight year is expanding to include Stockman's Steakhouse at the Pahrump Nugget in Pahrump, Nev., located an hour's drive west of Las Vegas.

Through Aug. 31, Brooklyn Bowl at the LINQ will donate a portion of the proceeds from folks indulging in ice cream-inspired desserts.

Chef demonstrations will be held at two Whole Foods Markets. In Henderson on Aug. 14 at 6 p.m., Chef Rafael Salinas of Julian Serrano at Aria and Chef Reed Osterholt of Hecho en Vegas at MGM Grand will pair Spanish and Mexican-inspired small plates with cocktails from Master Mixologist Craig Schoettler of Aria. At the Las Vegas Blvd. location on Aug. 21 at 6 p.m., Chef Ben Jenkins of Michael Mina at Bellagio and Chef Anthony Schutz of Michael Mina Pub 1842 at MGM Grand will team up.

During Restaurant Week, Honey Salt will give to Three Square when patrons order from the Taste of Honey menu and buy a special cocktail.

Mesa Grill at Caesars Palace will kick off Restaurant Week while celebrating its 10-year anniversary. For $75, you can enjoy a variety of appetizers, cocktails and wine in their private dining room.

On Sunday, Aug. 24, MTO Café on Main Street is hosting a six-course “Swinging Steakhouse Tasting Menu” featuring six of Las Vegas' top chefs including Johnny Church from MTO Café, John Curtas, author of “Eating Las Vegas,” Marty Lopez from 35 Steak & Martinis, Chris Keating from Border Grill, Joseph Romano from Golden Gaming & PTs and Sara Steele from Swiss Chalet Fine Foods. Tickets are $65.

DARLING DANIKA TO PERFORM AT CRAZY HORSE III

Pin-up model and adult entertainment star, Darling Danika, will perform a traditional burlesque show and a second burlesque-style show based around salsa music on Monday, Aug. 18 at the gentlemen's club Crazy Horse III. She will also create a custom-painted art piece that one guest will get to take home.
