A touch of Hawaii has invaded the east side of Las Vegas with the opening of two imported restaurants... Roy's Restaurant and the Hawaiian Plantation House.
The famed Roy's Restaurant has opened its second location in the valley at 620 East Flamingo Road just a couple blocks off the Strip on June 15. Internationally acclaimed Chef Roy Yamaguchi, who holds the distinction of earning Hawaii's first prestigious James Beard Award, first introduced Roy's in Honolulu, Hawaii in 1988.
The chain of Roy's restaurants has become well known for its "Hawaiian-Fusion" cuisine - a tempting combination of exotic flavors and spices mixed with the freshest of local ingredients. Another trademark is the "aloha" style of service.
The 7,500-square-foot eatery features casual elegance and Roy's Signature Exhibition Kitchen with a total seating capacity for approximately 250 patrons. The lounge area can accommodate up to 50 and there's seating for 11 at the chef's counter. Two private dining rooms can seat 70 and 30. The average dinner is $45 a person. Roy's opens for dinner daily at 5 p.m., call 702-691-2053.
The Hawaiian Plantation House is a new 24-hour restaurant in Henderson located at 10940 South Eastern near Horizon Ridge. It opened on June 20 with authentic island-style cuisine.
The decor is reminiscent of the island's inviting atmosphere, from the brightly-hued tropical fish and coral in the aquarium to the teakwood bar, cushioned wicker furniture, faux Banyan tree and other foliage. The bar area with slot machines is separate from the restaurant.
Lunch is offered from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., dinner from 5:30 to 10 p.m., and Pauhana (Hawaiian for "done for the day") from 10:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. A variety of appetizers and smaller entrees are served during Pauhana.
The Hawaiian Plantation House features a specialty cocktail menu, offers a children's, or "Keiki," menu, and caters off-site events. For reservations or information, call 702-990-6341.
